The President of the Republic dr. José Ramos Horta said that, the new uniform which F FDTL is using at the moment, is really important, however it is much more important still is the individual attitude to respect and to consider this uniform. F-FDTL has to be impartial to protect the integrity, the sovereignty, the people and the national interest of the people.

"The uniform which you are using, is of course just a fabric. However it is more important it is the individual behavior of the (F-FDTL) to honor this uniform. F-FDTL also has to do their work as professional and so can serve the national interest, the most important it is to give security and defence to the territory and integral sovereignty " dr. Ramos Horta expressed in the in the participation in the ceremony of delivery of new uniforms F-FDTL in the Palace of Dili Tuesday's Government (26/06). Horta said, each one of you has to take care of this uniform to serve the nation with loyalty and professional behaviour. He increased, at this time it doesn't exist conventional war, however F-FDTL has to be prepared to protect this land of the no-conventional wars as the terrorism, the organized crime, international traffic and other illegal actions. Therefore, Horta asked F-FDTL to maintain strong and to do his work to walk with total professionalism to respect the law and the human rights. Horta also promised that, as President, he continues to accompany and to give total his forces to help to develop the force F-FDTL.

In the same place, the Prime Minister, Eng. Estanislau Aleixo of Silva said that, this new uniform reflects the heroism of the guerrilla fighters who suffered during the 24 years. This uniform showed our dignity and our identity as a new nation own military.

"During the 24 years FALINTIL didn't have uniform. Even so during the 5 years of independence, F-FDTL didn't still have his own uniform, just using the uniform that our friends gave us, mainly from China, from Portugal and from Brazil. Like this in period of 5 years, the Government tries strongly to develop force of defense competence and resources having however that limits him. This uniform shows our great pride, mainly the heroism of our guerrilla fighters and our identity. With this, F-FDTL can make his function to run still better, it protects our wealth, the sovereignty, and whole territory”, Estanislau said. He added that, the Government of Timor Leste has non intention to buy missile or great armaments, however being important is to develop defence force with professional capacity and modern for he can answer the problem security and defense in Tímor Leste's area.

This ceremony began with soldier parade and it integrates new uniform, in behalf of the Prime Minister, is the General Brigadier Taur Matan Ruak. They were presents in this ceremony, total members diplomats in Timor Leste, Govern Members, Parliament Members, Officers of F-FDTL, PNTL and military attaches in Dili. (dj/nc)
