The President of the Republic, dr. José Ramos Horta informed that, the plan Force 2020 is quite important for Timor Leste, to develop and to control its defense area and of security. This comment was made due to the relationship to the public and international reason on the plan of Timor East's Government to develop the Force 2020.

"The Force 2020 is not just to buy war ships or combat airplanes, but it is also a plan to develop F-FDTL to be a professional force to control the defense and the security of Timor Leste sovereignty”, said Horta while he participated in the opening ceremonia of Workshop of the Human Rights for the Officers of F-FDTL in Tasi Tolu General Quarter, organized by the Ministry of Defense, ICRC and UNMIT, Tuesday (03/07).

Horta explained that, this international reason doesn't already base on existent facts. Force 2020 is a plan to develop the capacities and the resources force F-FDTL. This force can give good security in the marine area, terrestrial and in the existent wealth. So this the force can make his function well, mainly to guarantee the stability, the integrity, the freedom according to the Constitution.

“We needed warship to control our wealth in the sea. So it can avoid to rob and and to remove the wealth from the sea. Therefore we also needed another material, it also includes combat airplanes to control the terrestrial and the aerial space well. The Force 2020 is a plan to reinforce our interests have just mentioned ", continued Horta. He also increased that, the Plan Force 2020 won't be threat for any nation, because because we believed that the conventional war no longer it exists.

Though, Horta increased that the Government and the Estate of Timor Leste will have to get ready to face eventual non conventional wars, mainly international crimes, terrorisms, illegal merkats and other enemies. To face all this, Timor Leste needs to have a prepared professional force that can confront. Basing on these needs the Force 2020 is a program, not only to develop the force F-FDTL but also mainly to look at Timor Leste interests in the defence area and security for his sovereignty and Timor Leste integral territory.

Answering the Australian government concern, mainly on the comment through the Minister of the Foreign Affairs Alexander Downer on the Plano F2020, with diplomacy Horta said that, Australia and Timor Leste are friends and they want to continue to be friends, we needed more good relations, to conserve that friendship and to understand the individual interests of each one of both nations.
